Pizza Scoot

I know I've been MIA a little bit, but bear with me. We've had a lot going on in our house lately. Today was a catch-up/relax day and I gave Keira some [funky] pancake mix to play with while I did a couple things. Of course, she made a mess, but I had several minutes of peace.

And this. She decided to take one of our pizza pans off the bottom shelf of our baker's rack to play with. To be honest, this is the most use it's ever seen. We have a couple stoneware one that we always use. I'm not even sure where this one came from.

I was really trying to muffle my giggling so she wouldn't notice me.

Mush Moment

Keira got up from bed after only being down an hour. I got her resettled with her blankets & Monkey. She squished monkey into her face but kept reaching out for something. I gave her Bear. She shoved him away & kept reaching (eyes closed the entire time). I gave her my hand. She held on and settled right down. It's the moments like these that just go straight to your heart.

Flour-y Fun

Tuesday morning started the same as usual. Keira was up earlier than I wanted to be on my day off so downstairs we went for breakfast. (Yes, I've recently rearranged my kitchen for those of you wondering.) Keira decided to wear her hat and wanted to tell Daddy about it. All summer, I fight to keep her hat on her head. Now that it's fall, she wants to wear it indoors. (sorry about the blurry)

Soon enough it was naptime.

Or at least, it should have been. 30 minutes does not qualify as a nap in my book, so we went for a walk. My hopes of her falling back to sleep were in vain.

When we got back to the house, I decided to try something different to entertain her. I'm sure there's some sort of variation on Pinterest somewhere, but I haven't come across it. This disaster was my own making. I took out a mixing bowl, grabbed her stacking cups and a measuring spoon. Then I put about two cups of flour into the bowl and showed her how to scoop it from the bowl to the cups. No lie, this kept her quietly content for a solid 5-10 minutes. Go ahead, I'll wait while you revive from your shock.

Sure, she spilled some (ok, a lot) on the floor, but hey, I have a vacuum. I had started to clean it with my dustbuster, but then realized it'd be faster with the regular vacuum. It does have more power after all. It took all of 5 minutes. And let's be honest, it's not like my house couldn't use an extra vacuuming. Then I realized that I should clean the flour out of the dustbuster so it doesn't get caked up. Yep, I washed my dustbuster.

After that we had an errand or two to run and I decided we deserved a stop at Petco as well. We checked out the fish & turtles. Then the lizards. I avoided the snakes & spiders.

We looked in on the ferrets but they were all snoozing away in a pile. Not very interesting to say the least.
Then came the birds. She loved the parakeets and kept 'chirping' back at them.

We moved on to the baby parrot. She kind of liked him. He came right up to the glass to check her out as well. Then he squaked.

Poor Keira. She jumped just about out of her skin and started crying. It's a good thing we have no plans on adding one of those to our family any time soon. (Ok, anytime at all. Those buggers are crazy expensive).

Since she had enjoyed the fish so much at the Biodome (see our Montreal trip here) and she seemed to enjoy them at Petco, I considered getting our old tank out of the attic. Then I thought about it. She'd likely tip the tank over or who knows what. I'd end up with dead fish and water everywhere. So I did the next best thing. I downloaded an app on my iPad. Ok, I downloaded 3, then had to delete 2. She loves it. It's called Colorful Aquarium for iPad. Super simple to set up and free.

And the Fisher-Price iPad case? Awesome. It's drool-proof, has a handle, rubber corners that keep the body from hitting the ground and she can't get it open. Another great-feature? At one end of the clear plastic front is an extra, hard plastic piece about 3/4 of an inch big. This gives you the option to put the iPad in 2 ways. One way allows you access to the button, the other way, that hard plastic blocks it. It makes it so little fingers can't get out of the program that you want them in. Oh, and washable crayon comes right off.

Since last night's post was pretty lacking and it's been almost a week since I posted anything, I felt bad. So here's a mini-update while I work on something more substantial for you.

A little while ago, I bought Keira a stroller for her babies. She loves it. With or without her baby doll. Just watch your toes because she doesn't.

I had to take the spice rack off our island the other day.

This was becoming a regular occurance no matter how many times I said no or took her down.

So I got out a screwdriver and off it came. To be honest, it only fits the super skinny bottles so we never used it anyway. A few days later, the towel bar came off as well. sigh.

TOT: Vacations

Most of you have already seen these, but since the topic for this week's Toddle Along Tuesday is Vacations, I'm bringing it back. Our Montreal trip with lots of pictures.

We're not sure when or where our next vacation will be, but we're getting ideas already. And because I love this pic.

Another Video

Another video for no reason at all other than I think it's cute.

Since she's got more teeth coming in, Keira has taken to chomping on everything. Including our remotes. I love how she tries to be nonchalant when she's busted, then decides to dance. Maybe a distraction technique. You can see a couple times she considered putting it back in her mouth. This was actually the third time I busted her that morning.

Unconventional Toys

Another linking up with Growing Up Geeky's Toddle Along Tuesdays. This week's topic: unconventional toys.

Keira is the queen of unconventional toys. I could never list all of them. Seriously, she has made toys of the oddest things. Her favorite right now? A straw. For added fun, the Dunkin Donuts cup it came out of. I don't have pics, sorry.

Here are a couple pics from my phone of things she's chosen to enjoy.

She started early with plastic spoons.

To hair clips and bottles of any shape or size.

Then came the bag of marshmallows.

The lid to her potty.

Furniture. If it can move, it does.

Yep, that too.

Soda bottles, ice packs, egg cartons & more. Who knew a milk jug was so much fun to sit on and scoot around the kitchen on?

Be sure to swing over to Growing Up Geeky to check out some more Toddle Along Tuesday linkers.

Baby Gear Reviews: Chicco Keyfit 30

We originally chose this based on safety ratings and because we though we get a lot of use out of it. You know, since it goes to 30 pounds. Feel free to laugh at us.

Granted we could have continued to use it, but we got her convertible seat for a great deal and decided to just swap them out. It also doesn't help that when you put your little bundle of joy into them, they suddenly seem to weigh a billion pounds.

It was always very easy to get her in and out of, by anyone. Though Doug did have a issue with a stuffed duck in the beginning ("What does this strap do?" "Look at the duck" "oh"). In all fairness, he did do everything perfect on the first shot, no instructions. Until the tightening strap.

Let me tell you though, I miss that bugger. Especially when she falls asleep less than 5 minutes from our destination. Almost every time I've attempted to move her from her carseat asleep, she wakes up. So of course, many times, I leave her there. I end up playing on my phone or just relaxing. If I'm in luck, I might have brought something with me that I can work on, like knitting.

Plenty of cushion, decent canopy, easy to use. We had 2 bases so that we could enjoy the easiness of click-in and out. Chicco's drop in design? Love. I have a friend who had another brand and it had to line up just right to lock in. This one just seems to slide right into the right spot even if you don't line it up perfectly. Overall, we were very happy with our choice.

Thursday Song Share

I'm linking up with another fellow blogger, Jayne from the naptown organizer, for her Thursday Song Share. Hey, it's got me blogging more, which is one of my goals.

Since the first time I heard this song, it brought me to tears. When I learned the full story, I bawled. Of course, it didn't help that I was several months pregnant with our little girl either. Every time I listen to it, it reminds to hold onto her. You never know when your little ones will be gone from your grasp, for whatever reason. Whether tragedy or just plain old growing up, one day, they're just not there anymore. I know there'll be plenty of times that she'll make me crazy and I'll be pulling out my hair, but I treasure every day that I get to hold my baby girl in my arms.

Be sure to head over to the naptown organizer to see Jayne's song of the week and check out any other links. You never know, you might find a new favorite to listen to.

Mommy and Me

I've been watching fellow blogger's linking up with Growing Up Geeky's Toddle Along Tuesdays and have been loving the idea. But I've been procrastinating. Then forgetting. Then being just downright lazy. I just can't resist this week's topic. Though, I did have to go into my mom's pics to find some.

Was it really only 18 months ago she was that small?

And now look how big!!

Be sure to check out other Mommy & Me posts linked up at Growing Up Geeky.
