Zoo Day! Part 2

After the zoo, we went back to Grandma & Papa's house and played.

Abby got a haircut.

And this is what happens when you take photos WHILE pushing a swing. I love her hair.

Grandma is still faster.

A long day. When did she get this big?

Zoo Day! Part 1

I can hear it. The "Finally". The "It's about time". Yeah, yeah, here they are. Zoo pics. Enjoy.

Nothing like a rock star.

Our little troop (minus me, of course).

Checking out the cow.

We have photos of pretty much all our family on this pig. Even my grandparents.

More interested in Auntie Melanie's camera than the horses.
Ridin' in style. I love our stroller. It's a Baby Jogger City Select. It converts from a single to double and any combo. And it pushes so easy. Great Grandma had no trouble at all pushing both monkeys the whole trip through the zoo.

Lots of animals.

Grandma pointing out the elephants.

Can you spot the bear?
Continued in Part 2.........

I know, I know.

I haven't had a good Keira update in ages. We (cough, Doug, cough) really underestimated what it was going to take to get him set and rolling with his new job. But hopefully, we're on track now and I can get back to my blogging and crafty stuff. Somewhat.

I've still been taking lots of pictures as I do things, I just haven't had time to sit and get them posted onto here. Now that we've caught up a bit at home, I'm going to get caught up on my blog.

Brace yourselves.

Giveaway Winner!

And the winner of the raffle is......

Try not to to be too disappointed if you didn't win. We'll be having more raffles down the road. Can I just say how much I am in love with Rafflecopter? It made this so easy. A couple clicks and it was set-up. One click at the end and it picks a winner. Now I can't wait to use it again.

Giveaway ending soon!!

We've got one day left. If you're interested in getting your hands on a 3-pack of either bows, bow-ties or a combo, make sure you get your name on the list. I've got a ton of different colors as well as a couple prints to choose from, and a bunch of embellishments. Just to further get you interested, here's another preview. These are some of the ones I've made for Keira.

Thankful 30:Post 25 - Ending early.

So there are a million & one things I can list that I am thankful for but to be quite honest, I keep forgetting to come on and post. And I think my readers might be getting bored with it. Doug's new job that has been taking up a good amount of our time as we get adjusted to new routines and schedules. It hasn't been easy but I'm hoping that we're starting to get into a pattern.

Keira's onset in the world of teething has also knocked me on my ass. While I was working days full-time and in school at night, I was averaging about 5/6 hours of sleep a night, with a couple extra hours on the weekends. So far this week, we've had 3 nights of less than 3 hours each and not one has gone by without at least one waking.

I've also been trying to get a few gifts finished up. I've got two friends who are due to have their babies this summer. A first for one and a second for another. I've also got a friend who's little girl is turning two soon so I've been working on a special little dress for her. While I have many more projects in my head, I'm trying to keep the number of ones in progress to a minimum so I don't get overwhelmed.

Last week we went to the zoo and I'm disgusted with the fact that I still haven't posted those photos yet. Soon, very soon.

Thankful 30: Post 24 - Baby Signing Time DVDs

It is the only thing that has kept Keira's attention for more than a mere glance. We have watched every kids show on PBS. Well, I suppose I should say "I've" watched them more than she did. Though there was a one-time dance along with the Thomas the Train theme.

Thankful 30: Post 23 - Video Monitors

If you've ever had one, you know what I'm talking about. That moment at 2:46 am when your baby fusses. You reach over and look at the video monitor to see the munchkin rolling over and resettling. Truly knowing that I can close my eyes and go back to sleep without wondering if she's going back to sleep or going to start wailing. It's priceless.

It's also really helpful when I'm in the middle of dishes, laundry or gluing myself to a piece of felt (don't ask). And there is nothing so fantastic as looking at Doug with the words "she's up" and "your turn".

Finally! A Tooth!

It finally happened. Keira had her first tooth break through her gums. It's only a tiny edge but it's there.

I'd love to attach a picture of it but she clamps her mouth closed every time I get near it. So instead you get pics of her using her new plate, fork & spoon. And her carrying her picnic basket. Enjoy.

Thankful 30: Post 22 - Do Nothing Days

I don't get them often anymore. It makes them all that much more fantastic. Those days that we do nothing.

I miss them. Especially lately as they have become quite rare. Do nothing days spent in our pajamas playing on the living room floor. Seems to me we due one soon. I'm thinking tomorrow seems like a good day.

Our first giveaway!

In honor of receiving 30+ Likes on Facebook, we're hosting a giveaway! The prize? A 3-pack of bows or bow-ties. The winner will get to chose which as well as colors, to be handmade by yours truly. I have a large assortment of colors to choose from as well as embellishments. Here's some I've made previously. They're perfect for dressing up or just playing. If you don't have a little one and don't want to use them for yourself, they also make great gifts.
(The bows will be made with a clip, not a headband. They can be clipped onto headbands if your little girl doesn't have enough hair to hold the clip.)

Thankful 30: Post 21 - Good Neighbors

As I've mentioned, we live in a small neighborhood. There are only 10 houses on our street. We know every one who lives on our street and we don't have issues with any of them. It's generally a good neighborh

ood. It's the kind of place where we wave to each other as we drive down the street. We will chat and catch up on neighborhood news if we're outside at the same time. We even keep an eye on things when someone else is away. There are no wild parties, no fighting, no blaring music. We don't have to bang on doors or call the cops. I don't see us moving anytime soon.

Thankful 30: Post 20 - Staying Home

It was never my intention to be a stay at home mom. I was laid off just before finding out I was pregnant and I continued my job search, even having interviews in my 7th month. I've never been so happy to have something not go the way I planned.

I've been able to stay at home with my daughter for over a year. I realize that I am incredibly lucky in that Doug & I are able to make it work financially. He works very hard so that we can make this work and I do what I can to help. I wouldn't trade it for the world. Even it should change, I'm thankful for the time I've had.

Thankful 30: Post 19 - Location, Location

We live in a really great location. We live on the edge of a city, but you'd never know it. Our house is on the end of a cul-de-sac next to acres of preservation land. There are only 10 houses on our street and we know all our neighbors.

We are 20 minutes  (or less) from the center of our city and another city, as well as several towns. Within that time frame, we can get to 2 malls, hospitals, countless restaurants, stores, doctors, banks and more. Within an hour, we can be in 2 capitol cities, major airports, tons of beaches, skiing resorts, lakes, historic mansions, aquariums, amusement parks and casinos.Pretty much anything you could want.

Thankful 30: Post 18 - Extra Sheets & a Washing Machine

I am normally thankful for most modern conveniences. Today, however, I am especially thankful. Why you ask? Because Keira has managed to get another stomach bug. So I'm very thankful that we are able to strip her crib, throw everything in the washer and put clean ones on before she has a chance to fully wake.

Thankful 30: Post 17 - Infant Medication

Keira is teething. FINALLY. It hasn't popped through just yet but it's just about there. Infant Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen are kept handy in our house right now.

It's also one of the reasons for my lack of decent posts. Sorry.

Thankful 30: Post 16 - Pinterest

That evil little website.

I love it.

Seriously. I do. Because had I never found it, I would not be attempting all these crafty things that I do. I wouldn't have a billion things to do with Keira as she grows. I wouldn't have a ton of ideas for decorating my home. Ok, well, Doug might have appreciated that one. Though he hasn't complained about any of the recipes I've found. Of course, I should make some more of those. One of my blogging friends, Nicole, over at The Kavanaugh Report recently made breaded meatballs. I'm going to have to make them. I will be adding a boatload of cheese to mine though. Sorry, Nic.

I've actually made lots of stuff from Pinterest. Almost all with good results. Almost. I will admit to one recipe that sounded good that ended up in the trash. I've made bows, dresses, desserts and more. And you happen to follow me on Pinterest, you've probably noticed, I tend to pin a bunch of similar items when I'm planning on making something. It makes it a little bit more mine.

I'm feeling sentimental.

It happens. I've been slacking on pics of Keira and general updates since Doug & I have been concentrating on his new job and a few other things. So a little mushiness to make up the time.

I love the age that Keira is now. I love that she walks around and is growing more independent. I love to hear her chattering and actually being able to understand some of what she wants. When I look back to the days when she was tiny (not that 8#3oz could really be considered tiny), I don't really miss them. Constant feedings, changes, crying and a lack of sleep blend together to make the first 3 months pretty much a blur.

But then I see this.

And I want to snuggle that teeny tiny little squishy.

Anyway, enjoy.

We're on Facebook!

In case you haven't seen, Life with Blog has a Facebook page. Be sure to Life the page and of course share with your friends.

There will be some interesting stuff coming up this summer including some giveaways. So make sure you stay updated and keep an eye out because our first one will be when we hit 30 likes.

Thankful 30: Post 15 - Technology

It's no secret that I love techonology. From DVDs to laptops to android phones. I shudder to think what I'd do without the internet at my fingertips. Ok, so I'd be outside in my yard or cleaning my house. Blah. But I adore being able to look something up at the slightest whim. I have met great people that are all over the world. I've been able to learn new things and book vacations.

Thankful 30: Post 14 - Bath Love

If you've ever seen a baby eat spaghetti, you know first hand the horror. It becomes a feat of talent to get them from high chair to tub without getting it on you or the rest of the house. Then comes the gauntlet of washing. I am thrilled to the teeth (such an odd phrase) that Keira loves baths. Granted, she isn't thrilled with my scrubbing her but I find if I give her the wash cloth, she goes most of the cleaning herself while she plays. I can also usually sneak in and get a random arm or leg while she is otherwise occupied with her mass amount of bath toys. From duckies to turtles, fishes and a whale, even a boat and a book.

I am thankful that she loves her baths and it makes it so easy to get her cleaned up.

Thankful 30: Post 13 - 2 Hour Naps

I don't think I need to elaborate. Keira took a 2 hour nap today. I got laundry started, dishwasher emptied, back room cleaned, cardboard broken down for recycling, and I even was able to eat.

If only every day could have such great naps.

Thankful 30: Post 12 - Friends

Doug and I feel as blessed with our friends as with our family. Through the years, we have found a number of great people to come together with. Some we've known for years. Others we've only recently met. They've held us through tears, supported us through our fears, walked with us, laughed with us, listened to us rant and some have even offered to help hide bodies.

Some we may get together with regularly, while others are across the country, or even an ocean away. We may talk every day, once a week, or even every few months. We are thankful for each and every one.

Thankful 30: Post 11 - Home

I love my home. It is where I sleep, wake, eat, play, love, relax and live. It is where my husband is. It is where my daughter is. It is that warm feeling that I have inside me knowing that this is where I belong.

We have a Cape Cod style home at the end of a cup-de-sac. It a great location because there are very few cars passing through and Keira will be able to play without me worrying overmuch. We have a nice yard that we are in the process of redoing. Keira and I have even been getting ready to plant flowers. We've been weeding between the front shrubs & trees. Well, I've been weeding.

Our kitchen window is in the perfect spot to let in any morning sun, making any beautiful day start out right. Our front door let's in wonderful spring breezes while remaining shaded by two big gorgeous evergreens. I have to say, in the last year or so, I've really taken to yard work. I even like mowing the grass.

My favorite thing to do has been to take my first cup of coffee onto our patio to enjoy with the morning birdsong. I don't think I'll be able to do that this year with Keira running all over, but soon enough, I'm sure she'll enjoy it with me.

Thankful 30: Post 10 - Work

Doug started his new job on Monday. It'll be more hours, but it's totally different. He'll be doing paperwork and dressing in slacks & ties instead of out in the weather, busting hump in jeans and sweatshirts. I know this will be really good for him and I'm thrilled he was able to get the position.

And me? Well, my job search didn't go so well. So I'm taking a break from it while we get him settled in. Not to say I'm idle when he's at work. No, with Keira around, there's no chance of that happening.

I'm very thankful that in this economy, Doug was able to get a job that I know he'll love.

Bandana Dress

I promised a friend I would do a tutorial on this dress over the weekend and I forgot. So, I'm really sorry, but better late than never, right? It was so simple and takes less than hour. That of course, depends on if you have children.

I bought 2 bandana from Michael's in the Kelly green color. I had thought they'd be smaller and it would fit Keira. Yeah, I was so wrong. They end up being something like a size 4/5, I think.

Anywho take the bandanas out of the packaging. I ironed the creases out, then folded in the top two corners & ironed them flat. Then I stitched all 4. (top 2 on each bandana.) I then trimmed off the excess material.

Next step was folding down the neckline for the ribbon ties. I used the line to match it on both sides. Ironed flat & stitched.

Then I stitched the sides together.

I threaded to ribbon through using a safety pin and pulled it along to sfrunch the material. I also added the lace along the bottom for a little something extra.

And that's it. Ta-da!

Thankful 30: Post 9 - Lost Loves

It may seem an odd thing to be thankful for, but I am. Today, I was vacuuming my office chair and it hit me  (bear with me, I'll explain). I noticed that after I went over one side, there wasn't any fur. Yeah, I know, isn't that the point of vacuuming? Well, for me it was bittersweet. All those little tiny white strands...gone forever. It made me realize it's been a year since we lost our Pooter to sudden illness. There would never be anymore pieces of fur to fight with futilely. To pull out of clothes, off the furniture. That was it. The last of him. For 11 years, he gave us his unconditional love.

It then made me think of others who have left us. My grandfathers and a grandmother. Doug's grandparents. Other family and friends. They gave us their love and shared their lives. And I am thankful to have had them all in my life, for however brief a time it seemed.

Thankful 30: Post 8 - Food

So simple. Food. Yet so many people in the world go hungry every day. I am thankful that neither I nor my family are doing so. We can go to the grocery or nearby farm stand. We have so many options available. We can get vegetables out of season, as much or as little as we wish, organic, preseasoned, precooked. We have access to a variety from around the world. We can grow it ourselves or go out to restaurants. From our simple toast breakfast to our pineapple & brown sugar BBQ chicken crockpot dinner, I am thankful.

Thankful 30: Post 7 - Sleep

Ah, sleep. Sweet, elusive, blessed sleep. I am so thankful that Keira's new routine seems to be working and she has been sleeping better. It means that I sleep better. Which makes for a much happier mommy. Of course, it means a happier baby as well which also makes a happy mommy.

And on that note, I'm going to get some zzzzz's. Goodnight.

Thankful 30: Post 6 - Recliner

That's right. I'm thankful for a recliner. It's comfortable. It's easy to clean. And it rocks. We actually have two, but if you visited, you wouldn't know that. Originally, they were both in the living room. As time went on and Keira got taller, she started digging her feet into the arm of the glider and pushing. This made for very awkward feedings and rockings.

So Doug switched the recliner for the glider. It was wonderful. Now we both have more room. We're both comfortable. And on the really rough nights, if it comes to it, we can both sleep in it. I'm happy to say, it has only been a couple times. Though it may be comfortable, my bed is still a lot more.

What we've been up to

So besides the usual housework and whatnot, here's what we've been doing lately.

We went out to eat with family. Keira is not a fan of lemons.

We've discovered our fashion sense. Or lack of.

We've found some interesting sleep positions.

We helped to destroy sensitive documents

 We inspected our fabric selections.

We put together storage cubes. Twice.

We learned how to climb on top of the table. Joy of joys.

Thankful 30: Post 5 - Faith

Today I am thankful for my faith. Please do not mistake my meaning. I am not referring to religion. To me, faith is within every person. It allows us to believe things will come to pass regardless of uncertainty. It allows us to continue with our heads held high as we greet each new day.

I have faith in myself. I have faith in Doug. I have faith that our lives with be filled with love and happiness. I do not doubt we will have our times of struggle or pain but I have faith that we can weather each storm and come out to see the sun shining

I have faith in the future. Watching Keira grow, I can only imagine the woman she will become and consider all my hopes for her. I have faith that she will know the difference between wrong and right.

I have faith that most people are inherently good and are not out to cause harm, whether by statement or deed. I have faith that this describes the majority of the people I know. I have faith that unintentional hurts have the effort of a remedy.

I have faith in learning. That by striving to gain knowledge, we can become more of who we are meant to be. I have faith in experience and seeing the world. I have faith in imagination and in purple dragons.

I have faith in respect, courtesy and consideration and I have faith that those traits shall not disappear from our lives. I have faith in new beginnings and second chances. I have faith in hope; I have faith in love; and I have faith in life.
