Christmas, a few days late

I'm sure some of you have been wondering where all the cute pics of Keira during Christmas are. Well, until this afternoon, they were still sitting in my camera. The day after Christmas, we got another 'present'. Keira and I, as well as several other family members, came down with the flu. Once again, we are fortunate to have close family to help out whenever we need a hand. We are doing much better now, so without further ado, Christmas!

We celebrated with my family the Saturday before with a big dinner, gifts for the kids, and great company.

Here are the girls in their Christmas dresses.

My family preparing dinner.

And what dinner is complete without something bursting into flames? (It was just a tinfoil liner)

After dinner, we gathered in the parlor to watch the girls open their gifts.

After Auntie Heidi explained that her present was for use in the bath, Keira loudly proclaimed it was bathtime.
Luckily,we were able to distract her with another present.

Christmas morning was very low key and spent at home relaxing. Keira opened up her presents while Doug and I had our coffee.

One of my friends sent this Little People castle to Keira for Christmas. She loves her Little People.

I was surprised at how much needed to be assembled but it went together quick enough. (note the supervisor on the left)

Later that evening, we went to Doug's brother's house to get together with his family.

TAT: 2012 Review

Normally, I'd wait until after New Year's to review the year, but I'm doing it early to join up with the Toddle along Tuesday crowd again. It's so hard to believe another year has gone by. Here's to 2012, it was one hello of a ride. Join me as I take a short look back at what's happened.

Keira saw her first snow. She wasn't impressed.

Keira stood. She walked. She turned 1.

We did a lot of crafts. A LOT.

We had a great summer, with a trip to the zoo, a festival and lots of playdates.

Doug got a new job. I got a new job. Then Doug got another job. We had family visit from out of state.

Then we took Keira on her first international trip to Montreal and met up with some friends.

I finally joined up on a few Toddle Along Tuesday posts, including this one.  We tried out some new play ideas. Some went well. We won't discuss the rest.

We took the girls to a nearby farm for their harvest celebration.

Keira had great time Trick or Treating.

I cooked my first ever Thanksgiving turkey (which came out beautiful).

And our latest endeavor has been our Christmas cards.

Hope you all have a safe & happy holiday season.
So long 2012. Hello 2013.

Be sure to check out some of the others joined in on the TOT.

I'm still here!

Once again, I've been in & out of the blog world. Well, to be frank, I've getting stuff done. I've been making stuff. For those of you who've had preview, remember, ssssshhhhhhh. Some items took longer than others, while some were surprisingly quick. And let's not forget the mundane every day chores of laundry, dishes, etc. Ah, such a glamorous life I lead.

One of the many things I've done around the house has been replacing our toilet seat. (Well, one of them anyway.) We did actually need a new one. The finish on the old seat was peeling and worn. After seeing it on Pinterest, I decided to see if the built-in potty seat/lid was actually something regularly available or someone's custom item. I was thrilled to find it was not only widely available, but priced at $45. So on one of my errand days, I stopped at Home Depot, picked one up and later that week, it was installed (by me).

I love it and we're not even potty training yet. There's a magnet in the lid & potty seat that keeps them together when not needed for tiny bottoms so there's no worry about it falling at an inappropriate time.

I also did our Christmas cards. Since time was running out and it seemed like they were never going to get done, I just winged it one night. I tossed a dress on, tied up her hair and stood her in front of the tree (after moving the gate). This is what I got. (None of these made it on the card. I'll be posting that one later.)

She's not fond of pigtails. She kept trying to take them out. Doug tried to distract her and I ended up with a bunch like this. Great smile, but not very useful for our card.

Sitting pretty in the chair? Nope. Not happening.

So I tried the 'stealing Santa's cookies & milk' scene. She went straight for the glass. She's obsessed with using non-sippy cups. And Oreos? Total Oreo lover.

After her cookie, she went for some more milk & ended up spilling. We called it a night and I loaded what I had onto the computer. The next couple weeks will no doubt be busy, with a work party, my family party, last minute prep, and all the every day stuff like work and chores. Hopefully, once the holidays are over, I can settle into some semblance of normalcy & get back to regular updating again.

TAT: Hobbies

Once again, I'm linking up with Growing Up Geeky & Goin' Bananas! for the Toddle Along Tuesday. I'm pretty inconsistent about it, but I suppose that's life, right? I'm trying.

I have way too many hobbies. Seriously. Depending on my mood, I knit, sew, craft, write, photograph, paint, build, design, and more. I just love making things. From Pay It Forward gifts, to Holiday exchanges, to just random undertakings (or overtakings). Of course, sometimes, I get a bit carried away. Thankfully, Doug seemed to take most of it in stride.

Over the past year, I've knitted a blanket and a few scarves.

I've felt crafted bunches of bows & even bow-tie onesies. (Feel free to check out my tutorial here.)

And I've sewn. Lord, how I've sewn. From purses to pillows, luggage tags to little dresses and vests to hooded towels. I can't even begin to remember all the little things I've sewn this year. Keira's couch to say the least.

But I'll be honest, I lose interest. After I've made 4 dresses, I want to make something else. Anything else. That's when the paper crafts & random crafts come in. Like my fabric binder clips that sit on my desk at work.

I also love to refinish things. Like this car that was given to us by my sister. Keira loved it instantly. I prefer it painted. I just need to give the red another coat and finish off the tires.

My latest craziness ambition is on a grander scale. It started with our new headboard (another tutorial, if you're interested). I love it and I loved making it. It really gives me such a sense of fulfillment to make things.
I've got more projects planned for this winter and even the coming spring (too darn cold to be painting stuff during winter in New England) that I'm really excited to tackle. Some painting, some sewing, and I can't wait to get started.
